What is Surface Design?
Simply, it is how you cover a surface with a theme or pattern. Ranging from textiles, fabrics, home wares to paper products it is important to understand the do's and don'ts of surface design before you take on the styling challenge.
Those in the surface design world are interested in looking at fabric as geography - structural and dimensional enhancements that allow an interior space to be experimented on with colour, texture and design.
Why this is important to know for your wedding?
You can express your creativity on a variety of different surfaces such as table cloths, invites, plates, glassware, menus or backdrops. This will create visual interest for your guest. Different patterns can apply to various themes, such as vintage, art deco or modern.
Tip: Be sure to notify and cross check with your Florist and table ware suppliers - any surface design applications you'd like to use should be clearly illustrated to them on a visual story board. The last thing you want is flowers and vases that conflict with the style of your table cloth.
