Ah the honeymoon, maybe the most important of any holiday we will ever take, and something that many of us start planning out in our minds at childhood. The hard work of the wedding is over, the guests have dispersed, the canapés have been eaten, the dress has been hung up, and now it’s time to forget about it all and be carried away to an exotic destination for the ultimate romantic getaway. This is a time where we can truly relax and unwind and let indulgence take over.
But where, and how, and more importantly, how much will it cost? The honeymoon can be just as complicated to plan as the wedding, and this is one aspect of the whole experience that you definitely want to get right. As with all holidays, planning is crucial. The earlier you book and confirm, the better chance of cheaper flights with a high quality airline, and the better chance that your dream accommodation will be available when needed.
Budget is a key concern, how much have you got to spend? A honeymoon can be incorporated into any budget but it’s important to know your limits and set expectations of what those limits might provide. Having $15,000 to spend on a honeymoon will ensure one fantastic experience, while a $6,000 honeymoon will most certainly look completely different. The higher limit might allow for a majestic destination like Tahiti or the Maldives, sipping cocktails in the Jacuzzi on the deck of your breathtaking over water bungalow. The lower budget however might allow for a fantastic private pool villa overlooking the sunset in beautiful Bali or Thailand. Both of these are amazing honeymoon options but obviously very different experience wise, so it’s important to be realistic about what your budget might provide.
It’s also crucial to remember that the time of year will also play a big factor in the price and destination. Travelling towards Europe or America in July will ensure high season prices as you are travelling towards summer time, same thing for honeymoons close to Christmas, Easter, or school holiday time. March, May, September, and November are traditionally cheaper months for all travel experiences and so this may be a consideration. And what will the weather be like at that time of year for your chosen tropical destination? No one wants to be stuck spending their honeymoon taking shelter from the teaming rain.
As with the wedding, having an expert on board to help plan the honeymoon is crucial because you want to get it right. The best honeymoon specialists will listen to your needs and will advise on all of the above and more, making sure every consideration and desire has been covered. And most importantly, the honeymoon is not something to be compromised. With any luck, this will be the only one of these that you ever undertake and so you want to be 100% certain that the reality matches your vision. Your honeymoon should be like a dream, something that you remember fondly for the rest of your life, and can’t quite believe that it actually happened.
