Over the past few years we’ve noticed some really incredible emerging floral designers and stylists coming out of the woodwork. Dominique Flowers is certainly one of them. Her style is romantic, natural and rather breathtaking.
Couples meeting with Dominique Flowers can expect to have a pretty smooth process. It starts with an initial consultation where you can discuss your sense of style and what you imagine for your wedding, "we encourage our brides to work with us to define their ‘own’ style rather than copy an image they have seen on Pinterest or in a magazine," explains Dominique.
We asked Dominique what Brides usually bring to their first meeting. She explained that it is common for brides to provide their own inspiration and pictures of their dress, "although many arrive feeling a little bit lost, overwhelmed and not sure where to start." They have either been misinformed or simply unsure of the process.
It is really important that couples are aware that some images on the Internet can be unrealistic. There are usually budget restrictions and logistical issues which mean that the huge wedding set ups you see online and the flowers they use may not be practical or available for your wedding.
We certainly don’t want to discourage you from being as creative and inspired as you can be, but it is really important to be realistic when it comes to your floral and styling choices. That way you can avoid disappointment or stretching your budget further than you’re comfortable with.
Set up times on the day can vary greatly depending on the venue, so you have to check what their requirements are and advise your florist. It might impact what styling is possible, “hanging florals, table garlands, ceremony arches or large installations take the most time to set up and bump out,” so keep that in mind.
Once the style and action plan has been decided you’ll be presented with detailed visual references and mood boards. After a few consultations later you’ll be comfortable that Dominique Flowers has everything covered for your big day.
Why We Love
I’ve personally known Dominique for many years and as far back as I can remember she was an exquisite designer. Dominique was constantly creating and imagining the beauty around her. Whether it is foraging in the garden, sourcing antique lace from France or glassware from Belgium, her artistic spirit and openness has always reflected in her designs. Our past (and shared love for Preston Bailey) however certainly is not the only reason I am inspired by her work and sharing her designs with you today.
Dominique is constantly challenging herself and her clients. I love that her and her team are continuously learning and trying to be the best floral designers and stylists they can be. I recently learnt that Dominique attended an esteemed workshop by internationally famous floral stylist Karen Tran and is about to venture abroad to attend a workshop in the US and one in the Cottswolds UK with the celebrated wedding stylist Ginny Au.
We’ll be checking back in with Dominique over the coming months so she can share with us all her wonderful tips of the trade. We will explore more closely the process floral designers take when designing a wedding and the involvement of the bride/groom.
Dominique Flowers are located in the Northern Beaches of Sydney and get booked out pretty far in advance so it's worth getting in touch with them early. And if you need a little guidance from us before you prepare to meet, feel free to give us a buzz.
