We are all about luxurious weddings. They are regal, elegant and oh so pretty! Whilst our eyes are lost in the glamour of these events, our team here at Kisses & Cake would each prefer a smaller more intimate affair. That said, there is no harm in having a sneak peak into the biggest affairs ever planned, and taking a few ideas to make your own.
Kate and Prince William
This was the wedding of the century. It was estimated to have cost $34 million and was at the time the third most expensive wedding in history. Their wedding, however, was not quite the affair that Diana and Charles had. They spent $110 million when adjusted for inflation. Yikes!
Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas
The total bill amassed a whopping $1.5 million (which would be over $1.6 million today). The bride, better known for her roles in movies Zorro, American Sweethearts and Entrapment, looked elegant and regal. The groom, also a movie star and producer is best known as for films Wall Street and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. The wedding itself was like something out of James Bond. The invitations had invisible ink and holograms and the ceremony was held at New York's Plaza Hotel and guarded by over 50 rent-a-cops. Guests included Sean Connery, Michael Cain and Jack Nicholson. Zeta-Jones diamond tiara alone cost $300,000 and her Christian Lacroix gown $140,000.
Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes
The bill was a huge $2 million in 2006. The actress bride appeared in the hit show Dawson's Creek and in the movie Batman Begins. The groom is best know for his role in Top Gun, Jerry Maguire and Mission Impossible. The wedding was held in the 15th century castle Odescalchi which resides just outside of Rome. The wedding featured a five-tiered white chocolate cake decorated with marzipan roses. Guests included Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez, and David Beckham. Cruise performed 'You've Got That Loving Feeling' as guests danced through the night. Some of the costs included $900k for guest airfares and accommodation, $180k for 300 bottles of wine.
Christina Aguilera & Jordan Bratman
The bill was $2 million in 2005, so that would be over $2.2 million today. The pop star bride married her music producer groom in a wedding for 150 guests in the Napa Valley's Staglin Family Vineyard. Her Spanish-style Christian Lacroix gown cost $80,000. The decorations included white roses, silver and crystal in a winter-themed marquee.
Elizabeth Hurley & Arun Nayar
The bill cost $2.5 million in 2007. The supermodel bride married the Senior VP of Tyco in a double ceremony that lasted eight days. It started in Suderly Castle in Gloucestershire and then moved to Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India. Private jets cost $300,000, accommodation over $100,000 and the bridal suite for $10,000 a night.
Paul McCartney & Heather Mills
The bill cost $3 million in 2002 which would be over $3.6 million today. The bride, a Peta activist and model. The groom, one of the world's most acclaimed performers and songwriters in history. Their wedding was held in St. Salvador's church in Monaghan, Ireland. They had an Indian theme with Indian dancers, a vegetarian feast, $150,000 fireworks and $145,000 worth of flowers. A new song was performed by Paul, George and Ringo and titled 'Heather'. The castle was rented for $40,000.
Elizabeth Taylor & Larry Fortensky
The bill was $2.5 million in 1991 which would be over $4 million today. The bride, one of Hollywood's most iconic actresses, the groom a construction worker. The famous wedding was held at Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch and he was Elizabeth's "Father Of The Bride". Guests included Eddie Murphy, Liza Minnelli and Nancy Reagan. The marriage was one of her longer ones lasting 5 years!
Liza Minnelli & David Gest
The bill was $3.5 million in 2002. The bride and broadway star, Liza Minnelli was the daughter of famous actress Judy Garland. The Groom, a hollywood music producer. The wedding featured maid of honour, Elizabeth Taylor, and best man, Michael Jackson. Rumoured to have been one of the biggest celebrity weddings ever, the entertainment included a 60-piece orchestra and Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder and Natalie Cole performing. Over $700,000 was spent on flowers and $40,000 on the cake!
Chelsea Clinton & Marc Mezvinsky
The bill an estimated $5 million in 2010. The bride is the daughter of former President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton. The groom, a childhood friend and investment banker at Goldman Sachs and then G3. The wedding was held in an air-conditioned marquee which cost $600,000, a Vera Wang gown, a cake that cost $11,000 and the attendance of Oprah. There was also a small fortune spent on luxury pamper and security costs for the 500 guests.
Wayne Rooney & Coleen McLoughlin
The bill was $8 million in 2008. The bride was a British girl from a working class family who started dating Rooney at the age of 16. The groom is one of the highest paid footballers of all time. The wedding was held on a $120 million yacht. Guests were flown in on a charted flights to Genoa for a masked ball affair. Guests divided up their days between a five-star hotel and the luxurious yacht. The wedding itself was held in a 17th century villa and the reception in a medieval abbey high above Portofino.
Vanisha Mittal & Amit Bhatia
The bill was $60 million in 2005, which would be roughly $66 million today. The bride, the radiant daughter of billionaire steel-magnate Lakshmi Mittal. The groom, an internet banker born in London and the owner of Swordfish Investments. The wedding had invitations that were sent in silver boxes and included plane tickets. Rooms were booked for a 5-star Paris hotel and the event was held over 5 days at a 16th-century chateau, Versailles and a temporary wooden castle. There were performances by Kylie Minogue, designer gift bags with jewels and complementary Mouton Rothschild.
