There is something really charming about being married in an old barn, and today you can find some incredibly interesting historic and modern barns which will be the perfect backdrop for your nuptials.

The beautiful thing about a barn is they are usually a blank canvas that you can decorate until your hearts content! Check with your venue, but we'd suggest you pull out all the stops and create a show-stopping and heartfelt wedding.

Location: Nappa Valley, CA

Why We Love: Set on a stunning ranch, this 4000 sq. ft. barn has 33 ft. ceilings and glass roll-up doors making this both modern and exceptionally elegant. This romantic setting is private and ultra chic. Set in an all-white cottage surrounded by tall trees, this private venue is filled with classic ranch decor and clean accents. The private pool will also provide a relaxed space for your cocktail hour. The average cost of a wedding at the ranch is US$59k - $62K for a ceremony and reception for 100 guests.

Location: North Garden, Virginia

Why We Love: This is a historical and charming old style barn. Traditional in it's appearance this barn is set on 3,600 sq. ft of land and accommodates 250 guests. There are several indoor and outdoor venues available in the barn, including one main event building, The Granary; the winery tasting room; the Veranda and Courtyard; and the Farm Table.

Location: Santa Barbara, CA

Why We Love: This rustic barn is set by the sea. The century-old wood barn offers dreamy ocean views and perfectly manicured grounds. You can get married by the sea but celebrate in a country barn! The barn can host as little as 10 guests up to more than 500. Virtually all the decor from kitchen to seating must be brought in for the event, which gives loads of room for creative styling. There are also some great bridge spots for photos and a canoe for the lagoon. Just 10 minutes from the property is the Bacara resort and spar which is the perfect spot for your guests to stay.

Location: Fryeburg, Maine

Why We Love: This 18th-century restored farmhouse and barn is set in the gorgeous area of Maine. It is also a very popular venue for weddings. Although a very old heritage building, it has been restored so that it is now modern luxury. They have added in gorgeous chandeliers and a breathtaking double staircase which gives the venue a mix of urban, rustic elegance.

Location: Paso Robles, California

Why We Love: This gorgeous Wizard of Oz style oak barn has been the stage for brides and grooms to make their wishes come true. Set amongst century-old olive trees and lavender fields, this venue will offer the finest of local fare. You'll also enjoy some of the finest wines produced on the estate vines.

Location: Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA

Why We Love: This venue has a colourful past. In the 1920's and 1930's the land was owned by a Gatsby-style character who was known to entertain the rich and famous on this Jazz-age equestrian estate and barn.

Location: Austin, Texas

Why We Love: This newish barn is filled with loads of rustic charm. With huge chandeliers hanging from the roof this elaborate set up is the perfect blend of country and chic. The beautiful set up makes you feel like you could be getting married in your own private ranch. The 38 food wooden gambrel roof ceilings are adorned with six crystal chandeliers and white draping softens the edges of the barn. It can host a variety of events and can fit up to 200 guests.

Why We Love: This barn is a little different to the rest. With polished concrete floors and weathered tin roof this rustic bohemian barn is set deep in the Texas Hill Country on 20 acres of land. It has both indoor and out door spaces available as well as accommodation for guests. Willow sphere lighting decorates the inside of the rustic barn.

Built in 1904, it is a fully restored Victorian-style farmhouse set right in the heart of Hollywood. The historic home sits on 7,000 square feet and offers the perfect homestay for guests.
